Man Walking On Rt. 22 Struck, Killed By Car On Sunday
A Union County man walking on Route 22 on Cinco de Mayo early in the morning was struck and killed by a car in N. Plainfield, police report.
NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — A Union County man walking on Route 22 early Sunday morning was struck and killed by a car, authorities report.
The pedestrian identified as Jason A. Kohl, 48, of Plainfield.
On May 5 at 4:52 a.m., Kohl was reportedly walking on the westbound side along Route 22 between North Drive and Watchung Avenue in North Plainfield when he was hit by a car also driving west, North Plainfield Police Chief William Parenti said.

The driver of the car was identified as George Gabienu, 38, of Somerville, Parenti said.
The North Plainfield Police Department, along with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team is investigating the fatal motor vehicle accident.

The North Plainfield Fire Department and JFK Paramedics also responded. The New Jersey Department of Transportation diverted traffic while the investigation was being conducted.
Parenti said the investigation is still active and ongoing.
