Somerset County Library System Receives 1,800 Book Donation

A Bridgewater Macy's store donated more than 1,800 books for the library's summer reading program.

Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) received a donation of 1,821 books from the Reading is Fundamental and Macy’s Be Book Smart campaign, SCLSNJ officials said.

The books received by SCLSNJ will be divided among the system’s 10 library branches and used as prizes during the library system’s 2015 summer reading programs.

“The books we received thanks to this generous donation from our local Macy’s store range from board books to books appropriate for teens, so there’s something available for everyone,” Rebecca Klein, SCLSNJ youth services librarian, said in a release from SCLSNJ. “We believe in what Reading is Fundamental and Macy’s believe in: empowering children through literacy and inspiring them to embrace the joy of reading during the summer.”

Reading is Fundamental has partnered with Macy’s Be Book Smart campaign over the past 11 years, library officials said. Customers at Macy’s were encouraged to donate $3 to give books to children in the local community.

Macy’s contributed 100 percent of the funds raised to Reading is Fundamental. The donations from the Bridgewater Macy’s location, 400 Commons Way, funded the 1,821 books in which SCLSNJ received.
