These Watchung School Administrators Earn $150K Or More

WATCHUNG/GREEN BROOK, NJ — Several Watchung and Green Brook school administrators earn more than $150,000, information released by the New Jersey Department of Education shows.

The Watchung and Green Brook administrators are among the 1,552 on the department's list of superintendents and principals and their salaries released annually.

The local administrators, their salaries, years of service, and their rank on the list, are:

Superintendents and assistant superintendents:

78: Timothy Stys, Watchung Hills Regional High School, Watchung Hills Regional School District, 11 years, $199,208

289: Elizabeth Jewett, Watchung Hills Regional High School, Watchung Hills Regional School District, 17 years, $178,183

412: Kevin Carroll, district office, Green Brook Township, Somerset, four years, $173,083

726: Stephanie Bilenker, district office, Watchung Boro, Somerset, 29 years, $152,794

Principals and assistant principals:

155: Mary Nunn, Valley View School, Watchung Boro, Somerset, 38 years, $171,660

205: George Alexis, Watchung Hills Regional High School, Watchung Hills Regional, Somerset, 21 years, $167,985

710: Steven Searfoss, Watchung Hills Regional High School, Watchung Hills Regional, Somerset, 12 years, $151,985

The list has grown recently. Last year, fewer than 1,000 principals and superintendents made $150,000 annually.

In 2018-2019, the median salary for administrators $123,923, according to a Patch analysis of salary data for public school districts and charter schools. The increase was less than 1 percent above the previous year's median salary.

The Department of Education has said the department double-checks the data before delivering it to the media.
