Watchung Arts Center’s Virtual Summer Art Camp!

Join us for a new and exciting Virtual Summer Art Camp, now in its 29th year inspiring young artists, at the Watchung Arts Center. The three-week program, for ages 5-11, begins on July 5 and runs until July 23, from 9:30 AM to 1 PM Monday through Friday.

Under the direction and instruction of Mrs. Monica Schraiber Otero, Google Classroom trained and experienced in teaching art remotely, this Art Camp focuses on Creativity, Imagination and Ingenuity. The Art Camp offers children a unique opportunity to acquire or improve artistic skills, learn new techniques, explore different media, and become aware of the wonders of world cultures. All, while having fun!

Central Theme for 2021: PICTURESQUE CULTURES OF THE WORLD

Discover different art forms from various continents including Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Oceania. Japanese prints, dream catchers, pottery, Chinese lanterns, ceremonial masks, totem poles, pieces inspired by master artists or ancient civilizations are just some of the projects in this exciting multicultural experience! Themed creations vary each day as participants learn about the peoples and their languages as well as regional landscapes, landmarks, flora, and fauna. Draw using wet and dry media, sculpt with air-dry clay, paint, build structures using recycled materials, make collages and much more!

Virtual Art Camp culminates with an online exhibition featuring work from all three cycles.

For a complete experience, it is recommended that campers attend all three one-week cycles. Registration is also available on a weekly basis. The schedule is as follows:

Cycle I: July 5 – July 9

Cycle II: July 12 – July 16

Cycle III: July 19 – July 23

Art Supply Kit will need to be purchased from WAC. The kit will be made available for curb-side pick-up and will include all materials necessary for participants to create the projects.
