Watchung Borough Council Candidates Share Blueprint

Candidates outline concerns of the community and how they will work to fix these issues once on the council.

Councilman Ron Jubin and Candidate Freddie Hayeck have put together a blueprint for the pressing issues most important to all residents of Watchung. In talking with people from all corners of the borough, they have outlined the following concerns of the community and how they will work to fix these issues once on the council:

Advance quality of life:

  • Promote a sense of community by addressing concerns on local traffic challenges regarding the circle, power line issues, speed reduction efforts on main roads and the Hillcrest Road safety improvement efforts.
  • Develop a plan of improvement for all community parks, local ballfields and other recreation spaces.

Watchung Schools:

  • Identify areas of school quality and safety which can be improved
  • Focus on financial budget issues and how to involve the council’s support.
  • Reach out to school leaders on issues that affect increased student population as it relates to community housing requirements.

Fiscal Challenges:

  • Determine next steps to help mitigate the $1,000,000 borough deficit and address available options.
  • Create a plan focusing on helping the 150-plus local businesses in the town, who have all faced challenges in the past year.
  • Update the debt payment schedule chart for a better understanding of financial obligations for our residents.

Response to Covid19:

  • Continue to ensure Watchung is safe and responsible through the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Ensure our first responder agencies have the resources needed.
  • Work closely with community senior locations to keep them updated and involved.

Diversity of Thought:

  • A promise of commitment to the unity of all residents respecting and celebrating the wonderful diversity that Watchung prides itself on.
  • Further open communications with all groups with a focus on equality and fairness that brings our town and all residents together.
