Watchung Candidates Awaiting Certification Of Results

Local Democrats received about 20 more votes than their Republican opponents, voting results show

WATCHUNG, NJ — The Borough Council election this year was close and two candidates are waiting for the results to be certified before commenting on their campaign and supposed victory.

Wendy Robinson and her running mate Pietro Martino received 920 and 910 votes, respectively, Tuesday. Their opponents, George Sopko and Amber Murad received 893 and 898 votes, respectively.

When contacted for comment, Robinson said she and Martino's campaign will not comment about the results until the Somerset County Clerk's Office certifies the results on Nov. 18.

The Somerset County Board of Elections will count the vote-by-mail ballots received within 48 hours of the close of the polls, and provisional ballots on Tuesday, said Somerset County Clerk Steve Peter.
