Watchung Students Nominated For Theatre Night Awards

WATCHUNG, NJ — Students from the Watchung Hills Regional High School were nominated for five categories for the Theatre Night Awards, with their production of “Clue: On Stage.”

The awards are given out by Montclair State University’s Department of theatre and dance, with the purpose of raising the bar in straight play production in New Jersey schools.

Here is the list of categories Watchung Hills Regional High School was nominated for:

• Outstanding Achievement in Contemporary Costume Design
• Outstanding Achievement in Lighting Design
• Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Play (Masked): Ben Cupit as Colonel Mustard
• Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Play (Masked): Jordan Pincus as Wadsworth
• Outstanding Production of Play (Masked): Tim Lynch for "Clue: On Stage"

The Theatre Night Awards recognize productions from both high school and middle school straight plays throughout New Jersey.

They were first given out in 2009 and the 2019-2020 ceremony was the first to be held virtually. This year's will be as well.

“By rewarding challenging choices in the production of new plays and classics, we have observed that more school theatre programs are producing Greek and Shakespeare plays, challenging works by such modern writers as Bertolt Brecht, Brian Friel, Arthur Miller, George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, as well as new plays and original works,” the school says on their mission statement.
