Cars Strike, Kill Bicyclist In East Orange; Prosecutors ID Victim

A 26-year-old Orange resident was riding his bicycle in East Orange when "multiple vehicles" hit him, authorities said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A 26-year-old Orange resident died after multiple vehicles hit him while he was riding his bicycle in East Orange last week. No charges have been filed against the drivers, authorities said Saturday.

Steven B. Allen Jr., 26, of Orange, was riding his bicycle on Freeway Drive and Evergreen Place around 2 p.m. on Wednesday when “multiple” vehicles struck him. Allen sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office stated.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and the East Orange Police Department are investigating the fatality. Anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
