East Orange Woman Celebrates 104th Birthday By Voting In Election

Some of the secrets to Vashti White's longevity include "working in her garden, doing crossword puzzles and doing good deeds for others."

EAST ORANGE, NJ — An East Orange resident celebrated her 104th birthday by voting on Election Day.

On Tuesday, Vashti White dropped her mail-in ballot at the box near East Orange City Hall, taking part in a historic election. The centenarian got a belated birthday shout-out from city officials, who congratulated her on social media.

“Working in her garden, doing crossword puzzles and doing good deeds for others are some of the secrets of her success,” city officials wrote. “She looks fabulous … What a blessing in our community!”
