East Orange Workers Clean Up Mess At Brick Church Train Station
"Why does it take embarrassing pictures to keep our stations safe and clean?" a commuter asked.

EAST ORANGE, NJ — Sometimes a well-aimed complaint can make a difference, it seems.
On Wednesday, workers with the East Orange Department of Public Works put in an early morning cleaning effort at the NJ Transit Brick Church train station.
According to a social media post from the city, the work came after a local resident posted a photo of a “deplorable” state of cleanliness to the Facebook page of Mayor Ted Green.

East Orange city officials wrote:
“In East Orange, we are a team working together to keep our city clean. If you see an area that needs to be addressed, please do not hesitate to call the Mayor's Office of Constituent Services at 973-266-5151.”
Many residents and local commuters offered their thanks on social media, with some alleging there are recurring issues at the station.

- “This whole station is deplorable! All the other stations along the route have been restored except BRICK CHURCH. It's not patrolled regularly and it's literally falling apart.”
- “I don't even use these stairs anymore. I only use the exterior stairs. I am SO glad the city is doing so much.”
- “This is why I love my city. Great job team E.O.”
However, at least one person questioned whether it’s the city’s duty to clean up a mess at a NJ Transit station:
“Is that something we actually have to do or does transit whom owns the train station supposed to have clean it? Taxpayers’ money being used to clean up after NJ Transit is not a win or something we should brag about.”
Another commenter posed a question to fellow commuters:
