Family Nights, Free 'Zoovies' Return To Turtle Back Zoo In NJ

This year's "Zoo-vies" include "Wonder Park," "Small Foot," "Aquaman," "Dumbo" and "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse."

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Family nights and the free “Zoo-vies” film series are returning to Essex County Turtle Back Zoo for 2019.

According to a county news release, on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the months of July and August, Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange will host “Family Nights” with extended evening hours to 8:30 p.m., with the last admission to the zoo at 8 p.m.

Family Nights will be held on the following Wednesdays: July 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 and August 7, 14, 21 and 28. Family Nights will take place on the following Thursdays: July 11, 18, 25 and August 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.

In addition, on Wednesday evenings during July and August, “Zoo-vies,” featuring animal-related movies, will be shown for free on the top floor of the Turtle Back Zoo parking deck.

Families coming to Zoo-vies should bring their own chair or blanket on which to sit. Access to the top floor of the parking deck will begin at 7:30 p.m. Films will begin at dusk. Admission to the movies is free (this does not include admission to Turtle Back Zoo). Movies will be cancelled in the event of rain.

  • Wednesday, July 3 - How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
  • Wednesday, July - Wonder Park
  • Wednesday, July 17 - Small Foot
  • Wednesday, July 24 - A Dog’s Way Home
  • Wednesday, July 31 - Aquaman
  • Wednesday, August 7 - Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
  • Wednesday, August 14 - Beethoven
  • Wednesday, August 21 - Dumbo
  • Wednesday, August 28 - Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
