Golda Och Academy In West Orange Names New Head Of School

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Golda Och Academy’s Board of Trustees has announced that Rabbi Danny Nevins has been chosen as the new head of school.

Nevins will take over his new job on July 1, 2021, the board announced. Current head of school, Adam Shapiro, will depart on June 30.

Nevins is currently serving as dean of the Rabbinical School at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City. For 13 years, he served as rabbi of Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and a master’s degree in Jewish studies and rabbinic ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary.

“Throughout its storied 56-year history, Golda Och Academy has had outstanding heads of school,” said Keith Biebelberg, board chair. “In that tradition, our national search has enabled us to retain a unique, brilliant leader, Rabbi Daniel Nevins.”

“As we continue to pursue our core mission of nurturing the unique potential of each student through an exceptional Jewish and general studies education, I am inspired to have Rabbi Nevins’ leadership and vision at the helm,” added former board chair, Rebecca Berman.

Nevins said he is excited to join the school and get to work.

“Day schools provide the most intensive and extensive opportunity to provide Jewish children with the joy, skill and knowledge that will equip them for leading roles in the Jewish community and American society,” Nevins said. “GOA is already renowned for its excellence and I am eager to join the talented, dedicated administration, faculty and staff to further strengthen it as a foundation for a vibrant Jewish future not only in MetroWest but nationally.”
