WEST ORANGE, NJ — The McClure twins of West Orange are leaving New Jersey to bring joy and curiosity to another state, but the smiles they left in their wake will last forever.

They're on YouTube, after all.

It's been several years since the McClure family – sisters Ava and Alexis, their brother, Jersey, and parents Ami and Justin – rocketed to fame with their video, “Twins Realize They Look The Same!”

Since then, the video has gotten more than 5.5 million views and garnered national media coverage. It also gave the family a chance to do something only a small percentage of people ever do: earn a living as social media influencers.

The topics covered in the family’s videos – many filmed in their hometown of West Orange – matured along with the twins: “Young McClure Twins Excited About Their Fans,” “Toddler Has Words For Men Who Hit On Mom,” “Even Toddlers Need Chores,” “Our Marriage Is Hard.”

As their audience grew, so did their business. They appeared on Good Morning America, Ellen and The Today Show. They collaborated with Disney and Walmart, and befriended Jessie and D’Lila, the twin daughters of rap star Diddy. Forbes named them some of the nation’s “Top Influencers” of 2017. And in 2018, Justin and Ami quit their jobs to run the girls’ social media accounts after doubling their annual household income to half a million dollars.

Now, after several years of living in New Jersey, the family is embarking on their next adventure: a move to Atlanta, Georgia.

Justin McClure recently told Patch that as of Aug. 1, the family was still living in a hotel en route to their new home in the South. When asked about the reason for the move, he had three words: “lifestyle... personal... business.”

And the infamously high property taxes of the Garden State didn't help, he added.

“Although we have great memories of New Jersey, we aren't thrilled with the property tax,” McClure said. “Overall, West Orange didn't offer enough to justify the expenses. We have fond memories of New Jersey, but we can get more for our money in Atlanta.”

McClure added that he’s originally from Georgia, and it's a place where the family can hit the ground running. “There are a lot of industry and influence collaborations in Atlanta, so it's great for our business,” he said.

While the bang for the buck wasn’t ultimately worth it in West Orange, there are still things the family will miss about their old stomping grounds, McClure said.

“We'll miss the parks,” McClure enthusiastically recalled. “Verona and Grover Cleveland parks especially.”
