Nearly 1,000 In West Orange Have Gotten COVID Vaccine, Mayor Says

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Nearly 1,000 West Orange residents have gotten a COVID-19 vaccination so far, the town’s mayor reported Tuesday.

As part of his daily coronavirus update, Mayor Robert Parisi included local vaccination stats, in addition to case and death totals.

“As of yesterday, 991 West Orange residents have been vaccinated through the Essex County vaccination program,” Parisi said, noting the total doesn’t include residents who may have been vaccinated through their employers in other locations.

There are 47,563 people living in West Orange, according to the most recent estimate from the U.S. Census Bureau.

West Orange has seen 26 additional cases of the virus since Monday, bringing the town’s total intake of cases to 3,457. Parisi said that five people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19.

Other statistics included:

COVID VACCINES AND WEST ORANGE

On Monday, Parisi offered a message for West Orange residents who are eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine. READ MORE: How West Orange Residents Can Get COVID-19 Vaccinations (Do You Qualify?)

The mayor wrote:

“The COVID-19 vaccination process has begun, and all West Orange residents will access the KMART Vaccination Center located at the West Orange Plaza at 235 Prospect Avenue. The KMART Vaccination Center is administering the Moderna vaccine that requires two doses, 28 days apart.

The following people are currently eligible for vaccination:

1. All health care personnel

2. Residents of long-term care or assisted living communities

3. All Frontline First Responders

4. All people 65 years of age and older.

5. People ages 16 to 64 with one or more high-risk medical conditions.

For a full listing of those currently eligible or for a list of the qualifying high-risk medical conditions, check out the Township website at www.westorange.org/vaccine. As the state opens the vaccine to more categories of residents, or when at home, on-site vaccinations for seniors or disabled residents become available, information will be updated.

Residents can register for the vaccine at www.EssexCovid.org or by calling the Essex County COVID Call Center at 973-877-8456.

This site operates Mondays to Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

After registering you will receive an email and text message confirming the registration has been received. Once an appointment becomes available you will receive an email and a text message with an appointment date and time. This can be several days after submitting your initial pre-registration survey, so we ask you to remain patient.

It is possible that you may not be able to secure a vaccination date immediately. Dates are filling up quickly and the system only schedules dates based on available vaccines. As more vaccine becomes available, more dates will be open for residents. If you do not get a date immediately, keep trying to register … and please be patient.
