WEST ORANGE, NJ — A West Orange resident was recently elected to the leadership team of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association (NJWLA).

Michelle Schaap of Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi PC was sworn in to her new seat earlier this month by U.S. District Judge Lois Goodman at a virtual ceremony.

Schaap, the NJWLA’s immediate past president, continues her service on the executive board as nominations co-director.

According to a news release, the NJWLA is an independent association whose mission is to advance and retain women in the legal profession through education and activism, to promote qualified women to the highest levels of law firm, government, academic, community and corporate positions and to endorse qualified female attorneys for appointments to the state and federal judiciary.
