Seton Hall Senior Creates iPhone App With 4.5 Billion Downloads

The young entrepreneur has been honored by the New Jersey Small Business Development Centers for his achievements.

A Seton Hall University senior and co-creator of a mobile app with more than 4.5 million downloads, has been honored by the New Jersey Small Business Development Centers (NJSBDC) with an annual Success Award.

Taseen Peterson, whose company Tap Factory LLC is the creator of the popular Notefuly app, was honored by the New Jersey Small Business Development Centers (NJSBDC) with an annual Success Award. The app has ranked in top three most popular apps in the Apple App Store.

The NJSBDC selected 13 of more than 100 small businesses that it has worked with over the past year for Success Awards based on the winners’ commitment, passion and success working with the NJSBDC.

“Taseen and his partners are well on their way to achieving their dream of becoming one of the world’s premier boutique app developers,” Sunny Kancherla, the NJSBDC’s statewide director of E-Business and E-Learning, said.

Regarding his experience with the NJSBDC, Peterson is similarly enthusiastic.

“Sunny has been a role model, advocate, great friend and major source of encouragement in our successes,” Peterson said. “He helped to bring to our attention priorities, deadlines and opportunities that we may have missed if not for his willingness to see local startups succeed.”

Peterson is a rising star on the national tech scene. Last March, his company’s application won the national Student Startup Madness collegiate competition at SXSW (South by South West) in Austin, Texas, and was featured in Inc. magazine.

In addition, Peterson was a winner in the 2013 Seton Hall University Pirates Pitch business idea/business startup competition. The competition provides a forum for all Seton Hall University students to compete for $10,000 in prizes and business services.

“Tap Factory is very honored to have received a Success Award from the NJSBDC,” Peterson said. “For a startup business like ours to succeed today, you have to utilize all the resources at your disposal,” he added.

“Seton Hall University’s Center for Entrepreneurial Studies has also been extremely helpful to us, providing mentoring and other resources that have helped us to expand Notefuly and our other projects.”
