Snow, Freezing Rain Hammers West Orange, Schools Close for Weather

West Orange schools are closed today as the township prepares for wet, freezing, and hazardous conditions Monday. Winter Storm Linus dropped between 4 and 8 inches of snow on Essex County Monday night.
An additional 1 to 2 inches of snow and sleet could fall on West Orange today, the NWS reports. The township will be plummeted with heavy freezing rain through 4 p.m., with a chance of snow after that.
There will also be up to a third of an inch of ice on the ground, causing hazardous conditions on roads and side walks. Speed restrictions are in affect on the Garden State Parkway, the New Jersey Turnpike and other major highways as accidents and downed wires continue to plague travellers around the state. The National Weather Service issued a “Winter Storm Warning,” Sunday saying a “significant” storm could possibly dump up to three to nine inches of snow in New Jersey, and much rain, sleet and snow in South Jersey.

The winter storm warning will remain in affect through Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. There is the potential for one-tenth to one-quarter inch of ice, according to the National Weather Service.
