[UPDATED] Two Families Displaced After Two-Alarm House Fire

Two firefighters were injured in the blaze on Swaine Place Thursday morning, which left the West Orange home uninhabitable.

Two West Orange families were left homeless as a result of a morning fire in a Swaine Place home Thursday morning, police officials said.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries at the three-story home at 5 Swaine Place that started at 10:27 a.m., officials said.

The fire was extinguished in less than 30 minutes but heavily damaged the third floor and left the home uninhabitable, a township spokesperson said. The side of a neighboring home was also damaged from the fire.

According to a Swaine Place resident, as a precaution West Orange firefighters evacuated the houses closest to the fire.

No information was available on the cause of the fire which remains under investigation.

Firefighters from West Orange, Orange and South Orange fought the blaze.
