West Orange Elementary Schools Rank High in Academics Among Peers
All the district's elementary schools achieved 100 percent of targets on the 2013 NJ School Performance Reports, except for Washington and Pleasantdale schools n the college and career readiness performance area.

West Orange School District's elementary schools were recently ranked high in academic achievement among its peers and average throughout New Jersey, according to the recent school performance reports issued by the Christie administration.
Redwood Elementary School topped the group with test scores in the 97th percentile among peers and in 84th statewide while Pleasantdale Elementary School 'lagged in comparison. The elementary tested the lowest in the district placing only in the 20th percentile among peers and statewide.
Gregory, Hazel, Mount Pleasant and St. Cloud elementary schools all tested high as well in academic achievement.' Washington Elementary School placed in the 79th percentile among peers and 34th statewide.Â

Summary of report cards below
The reports ranks the schools on three different categories: Academic achievement on the Language Arts Literacy and Math sections of the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJASK), college and career readiness which measures how many students are chronically absent and student growth measures the performance of students from one year to the next on the NJASK tests.Â

All of West Orange's elementary school met 100 percent of each of the state's targets in each performance area except for Washington Elementary School, which missed all of its targets for college and career readiness.Â
It also ranks schools against 30 peer schools based on free and reduced lunch, limited English proficiency programs or special education programs.
The state defines levels of achievement as:Â "Very High" achievement is for any school in the 80th percentile or higher; "high" achievement is granted to schools between the 60th and 79.9th percentiles; "average" covers percentiles 40 through 59.9. Between percentiles 20 through 39.9 is considered "lagging," and any score at or below the 19.9th percentile is defined as "significantly lagging."
