West Orange Gas Station Closing For Week Due To Coronavirus

A gas station in West Orange was thanked for being "transparent" and "up front" about 3 COVID-19 cases that will cause a temporary closure.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — A gas station in West Orange got thanks from community members for being “transparent” and “up front” about three COVID-19 cases that will cause a temporary closure.

Prospect Exxon, located on Prospect Avenue, offered the following message to its customers on Feb. 22:

“Please be advised that there has been a positive case of COVID-19 at the Prospect Exxon auto repair shop and we are not currently accepting appointments for the week of February 22 to 26. The gas station remains unaffected. Please check back for updates regarding the week of March 1. We ask that customers do not come into the lobby or the shop during the time the shop is closed as we will be unable to assist you. Please feel free to call to schedule future appointments. (973) 731-7400. We appreciate your patience and understanding at this time as we take all necessary steps to ensure a safe reopening.”

“We will be closed the week of March 1 to 5 as we follow CDC guidelines and quarantine. Three of us ended up getting COVID, but luckily, we are all recovering well. We apologize for the inconvenience and truly appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience as we all recuperate. We will be back in action soon!”

Other businesses in Essex County have also seen thanks from the community and their patrons after publicly announcing coronavirus-related closures.

In November 2020, a bar in Caldwell closed for two weeks after a repeat customer tested positive for COVID-19. A supporter thanked the bar, and said it was being upfront and responsible after learning about the positive test.

"You guys are awesome for doing this and for letting everyone know," they wrote. "This is why I love this place. Thank you, can't wait to be back."
