West Orange Gymnast Triumphs At National Championships

WEST ORANGE, NJ — A West Orange resident can officially call herself a national “gymnastics champion” after taking home top honors in her division at the USA Gymnastics Women’s Development Program National Championships.

Alana Walker of North Stars Gymnastics Academy emerged at the top of her age group at the prestigious event, which was held in Daytona Beach, Florida earlier this month.

For winning her age group, Walker has qualified to the 2021 USA Gymnastics Development Program National Team.

All-around and individual event champions were crowned across 12 age divisions spanning junior and senior classifications. Many current and former men’s and women’s national team members, including Olympic and world champions, have competed in the Development-National Championships-equivalent Junior Olympic National Championships before advancing to the most elite level of gymnastics.
