West Orange Reports 216th COVID Death; 7K Vaccinations Given

West Orange Mayor: 4,928 first vaccinations and 2,080 second vaccinations have been given to local residents.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — A West Orange resident died earlier this week, becoming the 216th person in the township to pass away from the coronavirus, officials say.

Mayor Robert Parisi gave a COVID-19 update on Wednesday, reporting that a 74-year-old resident died on Monday.

“Our sympathies to the families and all those impacted by this virus,” Parisi said.

“There are 11 additional cases since [Tuesday], bringing the West Orange total intake of cases to 4,069,” the mayor added. “Six residents are currently hospitalized, of which five are in ICU.”

Those additional cases include people ranging in age from 23 to 65, and came from nine different addresses in town, he said. Only one case came from a previously reported address.

Of the 44 active cases in West Orange, 36 cases come from different addresses, and eight addresses contain multiple cases, Parisi said.

Other local statistics include:

  • Total Intake of West Orange Confirmed Cases – 4,069 (deaths are included and remain active until full investigation is complete)
  • Cases Officially Transferred to other Municipalities – 106
  • Recovered and Closed Cases – 3,919
  • Total Current Active West Orange Cases – 44
  • Total Negative Test Results of West Orange Residents – 13,579

WEST ORANGE VACCINATION UPDATE

Parisi also offered an update on COVID-19 vaccinations in the township.

“As of [Tuesday], Essex County has provided a total of 7,008 vaccinations to West Orange residents, [including] 4,928 first vaccinations and 2,080 second vaccinations,” the mayor said, adding that the number doesn’t include residents who may have received their vaccinations through other sources.
