West Orange Schools Set Delayed Openings as Bad Weather Rages On

Public schools will have a delayed start, as the West Orange community battles ice, flash freezes, and snow.

West Orange public schools will have a delayed opening Tuesday morning, as icy, flash freeze conditions and cold winds surge across the area.

  • West Orange High School will open at 9:30 a.m.
  • Middle Schools will open at 10:10 a.m.
  • Elementary Schools will open at 10: 35 a.m.
  • All A.M. preschool sessions are cancelled. P.M. preschool will begin at 1 p.m.

Temperatures will plummet Monday night, with lows around 11 degrees and wind chill values falling to 5 below zero, the NWS reports. Blustery wind gusts will reach 28 miles per hour tonight. The bitter cold will continue tomorrow, with highs around 22 degrees and wind chills as low as zero.

The National Weather Service says flash freeze conditions are expected across the state as sharply colder air surges back across New Jersey. Temperatures were expected to rapidly fall below freezing in areas that are currently above freezing, according to the police.

Snow started falling hard in West Orange late Monday, compelling the New Jersey Turnpike to expand speed restrictions on the Turnpike and Garden State Parkway to 35 mph.
