Free Tree Seedlings In Washington Township Saturday: Here’s How To Get Yours

New Jersey officials have 112,500 free tree seedlings ready for planting in 2017. Here's where to get yours, Washington Township.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — About 112,500 free tree seedlings will soon be available to New Jersey residents in 128 towns — including Washington Township — as part of an ongoing partnership between the New Jersey Tree Recovery Campaign, State Forest Service and the nonprofit Arbor Day Foundation.

The Washington Township tree seedling giveaway will take place at the Department of Municipal Facilities from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 22 and 29. Residents are eligible to receive up to five free seedlings. Proof of residency is not required.

"The seedlings, which are about two to three feet high when distributed, should be planted promptly to ensure they take root and thrive," State Forester John Sacco said. "Residents should be mindful of their planting site's surroundings by avoiding overhead utility lines and proximity to structures in case of storms, and considering the size of the tree when fully grown."
