Paving Begins In Hillsdale: See What Roads Are Impacted

​Work began this week to repair several streets in Hillsdale as part of the borough's annual road resurfacing program.

HILLSDALE —Work began this week to repair several streets in Hillsdale as part of the borough’s annual road resurfacing program.

In July, officials approved spending $679,000 to mill and pave 16 streets, along with $226,000 to perform sidewalk improvements, according to Mayor John Ruocco.

  • Riverside Drive
  • David Place
  • Sebastian Court
  • Bedford Road
  • Rawson Court
  • Meadow Drive
  • Watson Place
  • Conklin Ave (East of Kinderkamack Road)
  • Raymond Street/Court
  • Wilts Avenue
  • Reservoir Road (Church to Parkview)
  • Brookside Place (dead end west of Broadway)
  • Piermont Avenue (dead end west of Broadway)
  • Prospect Place (dead end west of Broadway)
  • St. Nicholas Avenue
  • Washington Avenue (west of tracks to Kings Supermarket entrance)

According to the mayor, officials are still waiting to hear back on whether they’ll receive $285,000 worth of grant funding to repair Craig Road, Melville Road, Glen Hook Road, Douglas Drive and a $295,000 grant to fix Everdell Avenue, Hillsdale Avenue, Midland Avenue, Highland Avenue and Maplewood Avenue.

  • Overnight parking is permitted on adjacent side street during construction.
  • When the contractor puts up "No Parking" signs, this will indicate work is about to start (weather permitting).
  • After the street is milled and immediately prior to actual paving, the street will be coated with a liquid tacky asphalt material. The street will be barricaded closed. Please obey the barricades and do not drive or walk on this material.
  • Once the new asphalt surface cools and the barricades removed, you may drive slowly on the roadway.
  • During the actual milling and paving operations, travel in the street is not permitted while equipment is operating. For the safety of children and pets, please keep them a safe distance from construction equipment at all times.
  • Should the street remain incomplete overnight, please do not allow pets, children, or bicycles to cross the new or incomplete portions of the street. They may be coated with the liquid asphalt tack material that can be tracked onto driveways, shoes, tires, or paws.
  • Once the new asphalt surface cools, and the barricades removed, you may drive slowly on the roadway.
