MLB Draft 2019: See The Pascack Hills Kid Selected

WESTWOOD, NJ —The 2019 MLB Draft got underway this week and one talented kid from Pascack Hills High School was selected.

Out of Pascack Hills High School, Ryan Ramsey was selected in the 36th round, 1,090th overall, by the Cleveland Indians, who stands 6-feet tall, hits right-handed and throws left-handed. He has committed to playing at the University of Maryland.

Ramsey was named The Record's male athlete of the week Tuesday. He helped Pascack Hills win a third consecutive North 1, Group 2 sectional title, NorthJersey.com reported. He pitched 7 1/3 shutout innings, striking out 18 batters, according to the report. Ramsey hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Drafted No. 1 overall by the Baltimore Orioles, Oregon State catcher Adley Rutschman joined notable past players such as Carlos Correa, Bryce Harper, Stephen Strasburg, David Price, Gerrit Cole, Justin Upton, Joe Mauer, Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Hamilton, and, of course, Alex Rodriguez to earn the distinction.

Rutschman, a switch-hitter, was the "consensus" best prospect in the draft, according to MLB.com. He can hit for average and power and knows the strike zone well, drawing many walks. He’s also "quality" on defense.

"He now becomes the face of the franchise," MLB.com wrote.
