For several hours on Halloween of this year, the Township of Washington Emergency Services, at the direction of Detective Heather Castronova, hosted the township’s first annual “Trick or Treat Safely” event, providing the youngsters of the town a safe opportunity to participate in traditional Halloween festivities. While the police cordoned off a section of Colonial Avenue, both the Ambulance and Fire Departments set up at opposite ends to entertain the children.

Members of the Township of Washington Volunteer Ambulance Corps had out candy available for the young trick-or-treaters who came by, as well as setting up a recruiting station for potential prospects. Additionally, youngsters who asked were given tours of the ambulance as well.

The Corps remains hopeful its participation in this event may have inspired a young man or woman to some day serve as a first responder, if not, the positive interactions with the children of the community will make them more comfortable to approach emergency services in any time of need.
