6 Straight Days Of Extreme Heat Ahead: 'Virtually No Relief' In Sight For New Jersey

An excessive heat warning is in place through Monday, but that doesn't mean the heat will exactly cease then.

A heat wave has descended upon New Jersey, bringing "very hot" and humid conditions through early next week. It could feel as hot as 105 degrees Saturday with the heat index, the National Weather Service says.

An excessive heat warning is in place in parts of Central and South Jersey through Monday, but that doesn't mean the heat will exactly cease then. Other parts of the state are facing excessive heat watches and heat advisories through the weekend.

Forecasters are not sure exactly when we can expect relief from sweltering temperatures and high humidity. Six straight days of 90-degree temperatures are in the forecast for much of the state, with conditions in the upper 80s expect late next week.

"With no strong pushes of cool air from Canada on the horizon, people from the mid-Atlantic to the Deep South can expect virtually no relief from the high heat and humidity," according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Kyle Elliott.

Over the weekend, temperatures will be in the upper 90s and in some areas won't drop below 80 degrees at night. Heat index values will be between 100 and 105 on Saturday in much of the state.

The potential for heat-related health issues will be high, forecasters with the NWS warned.

"The multiple days of excessive heat will greatly affect those who are attending outdoor activities, especially events with large groups of people that are gathering in the direct sun," the excessive heat warning said.

People planning to spend time outside should ensure they are drinking a lot of water and staying in the shade as much as possible. Never leave pets or children in cars, and check up on elderly relatives and neighbors.
