WATCH: Avenel Fencer Talks Team USA, Purple Hair

"It's just kind of standing out and not being afraid of who I am and being confident," Avenel's Dagmara Wozniak tells the Today Show.

Woodbridge, NJ - Three out of the four women on the U.S. women’s Olympic saber team are from New Jersey, and one of them grew up right here in Woodbridge: Dagmara Wozniak moved to the U.S. from Poland at age 1, and her family settled in Avenel. She began saber training at a young age and went on to graduate from Colonia High School. Wozniak now lives in Hoboken, where she was presented with a proclamation from Mayor Dawn Zimmer in July before leaving for Rio.

That's Dagmara above being interviewed on the "Today" Show with Matt Lauer and Hoda Kotb, alongside teammates Monica Aksamit from Matawan, NJ, Ibtihaj Muhammad from Maplewood, NJ and Mariel Zagunis from Beaverton, OR. Aksamit is a fencing instructor at Saint John Vianney High School in Holmdel. Muhammad will be the first U.S. athlete to compete in a hijab, and Wozniak also explained why she dyed her hair purple for the big event.

"Not so much luck, I mean, I do love the purple hair, but it's just kind of standing out and not being afraid of who I am and being confident and trying new things," Wozniak told Hoda. "It's awesome to be together and support our country." Watch the U.S. women's saber team compete Saturday, August 13 at 8:00 a.m. EST. Stream it live here: http://ow.ly/3crR3032eAz
