Bulk Of Woodbridge's New Cases In Those 30 And Under

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Woodbridge logged 126 new COVID cases over the April 16-18 weekend, and half of them (63) were in people age 30 or younger.

Only five of the weekend's cases were in those 65 and older, according to the town. Most older adults are now fully vaccinated.

"Your kids used to tell you to be careful and to stay inside and now you should be giving the same advice to them," said Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac.

From March-December of last year, there were a total of 2.8 million COVID cases in children, adolescents, and young adults ages 0-24 in the U.S., according to the CDC. Of data it could obtain of those 2.8 million, 30,229 (2.5 percent) were hospitalized, 1,973 (0.8 percent) required ICU admission, and 654 (<0.1 percent) died.

Woodbridge is still averaging about 40 new cases a day which "is actually a bit baffling considering the number of people in our Township who are getting vaccinated," he said.

The town also commended Fords resident Shelley Miller, who has personally gotten appointments for nearly 150 people by watching websites and social media pages and getting up at all hours of the night to log on when availabilities are posted.

"We appreciate your efforts," said the town of Woodbridge.
