A Woodbridge teen is among the semifinalists in the annual National Merit Scholarship program, according to officials at her school.

A Woodbridge teen is among the semifinalists in the annual National Merit Scholarship program, according to officials at her school.

Mauranda Men, who lives in the Colonia section of Woodbridge and attends Newark Academy, is among the 16,000 students nationwide named as a finalist.

Students’ scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit® Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) are used to create the pool of entrants.

“The nationwide pool of 2016 semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state,” the news release said.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation will begin announcing winners in the spring.
