Flash Flood Warning for Middlesex County Thursday Night

Rainfall of 2-3 inches per hour Thursday night could cause flash flooding, police warn.

Be careful out there this evening: Not only is there a severe thunderstorm watch in effect until midnight, a flash flood watch has also been posted from Thursday evening through Friday afternoon. The watch is in effect for all of Middlesex County, but especially around the New Brunswick area.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect from 6 P.M. this evening through Friday afternoon. The potential for localized rainfall amounts of 2 or more inches in one hour will bring the risk for flash flooding. Isolated rainfall amounts of three inches or more are possible. Please use caution while driving. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Heavy rainfall and potential flooding will be the main threat overnight into early Friday morning. A few stronger embedded storms could result in wind gusts between 40 and 60 miles per hour, the North Brunswick Office of Emergency Management said.
