Main Concern for Woodbridge in Storm: Wind

Woodbridge, NJ - While the Jersey Shore is preparing for tidal flooding in Tropical Storm Hermine, the biggest risk to Woodbridge Township and all of Central New Jersey is wind, local police said Saturday.

The storm should arrive in the Woodbridge area late Sunday afternoon or early evening. The storm speed of travel will slow as it enters the Central Jersey area and will remain in the area longer than previously expected. Strong wind gusts of up to 30-45 mph can be expected Sunday night through Labor Day Monday. 0.25 -1.25 inches of rain is expected also.

Power outages are possible, police say. Remember to have batteries, flashlights and battery powered lanterns on hand. Also charge your cell phones and other electronic devices before the storm enters the area.

This storm is expected to be more of a coastal event and it's effects should diminish as it approaches the Central Jersey area. On the coast, moderate flooding may occur Sunday, with localized major flooding possible, especially in back bay areas. Sustained winds over 40 mph with higher gusts are forecast at the coast. Minor to moderate coastal flooding is expected with Saturday night's high tide.
