Who came out on top, Simone Biles or Old Bridge's own Laurie Hernandez?

Old Bridge, NJ - Spoiler alert: If you want to wait and watch the balance beam event Monday night, Aug. 15, on TV stop reading now!

As Patch already reported Monday, Laurie Hernandez, 16, of Old Bridge, NJ competed against Team USA teammate Simone Biles in the balance beam competition on Day 10 of the Olympics, Aug. 15. And in a somewhat surprising upset, Hernandez beat out Biles in the event, with a score of 15.333 to 14.733, according to NBC, which is reporting the Olympic results in real time from Rio. Hernandez took silver in the event, Biles took bronze, but both Team USA girls lost the big prize to the Netherlands Sanne Wevers, who garnered 15.466 to take home the gold. The balance beam is considered Hernandez's strongest event, and Biles actually nearly fell off the beam Monday, which put her in third place.

By winning gold on the balance beam, Wevers became the first gymnast to beat Biles at anything in Rio, reports NBC.

The balance beam was the last event for Hernandez, but Biles still has her floor competition Tuesday, along with Aly Raisman.

Hernandez, the youngest member of the U.S. women's gymnastics team, will add her silver medal to the gold medal she helped the entire team win last week. And Biles will add her bronze to the three Olympic gold medals she already has under her belt, in team all-around, individual all-around and vault.
