What Percent Of Woodbridge Has Been Vaccinated So Far?

Hoboken said it will start administering the vaccine to kids 12-15 as early as this week. The Woodbridge town sites do not have Pfizer.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — As of Monday, May 10, just 34 percent of Woodbridge Twp. has been vaccinated against coronavirus, according to the state Dept. of Health.

However, that percentage is from the entirety of Woodbridge's population, which is about 100,000 and includes children and teens, according to the latest U.S. Census. About 21 percent of Woodbridge's population is 19 and under.

Of Woodbridge's adult population ages 18-65, 43 percent have been vaccinated. And among those 65 and up in Woodbridge, 69 percent have been vaccinated.

This is according to brand-new data released Monday by the state Department of Health's COVID-19 dashboard, which now reveals the percentage of people vaccinated in each town in New Jersey.

Woodbridge's numbers are slightly higher than the state's: According to Woodbridge Twp., 79,738 of the town's 100,927 residents have been vaccinated; 40 percent of adults have been fully vaccinated and 59 percent of adults have gotten at least one dose.

Woodbridge does not have Pfizer vaccine in stock to vaccinate teens

On Monday night, the FDA approved the Pfizer vaccine for teens ages 12-15 and some New Jersey towns, such as Hoboken, announced they will start giving the Pfizer shot to teens as early as this week, and encouraged parents to sign up immediately.

But Woodbridge is not ready yet, said a town spokesman. The sites run by Woodbridge Twp. do not even have the Pfizer vaccine in stock.

"The Woodbridge Health Department does not get the Pfizer vaccine, which is the only vaccine approved for distribution to the under-18 population," said Woodbridge spokesman John Hagerty. "Until we receive authorization (and the vaccine) from the NJDOH, we will not be positioned to offer vaccinations to the under-18 age group."

How does Woodbridge compare with the rest of the New Jersey?

Edison: 42 percent of total population got the vaccine; 53 percent of those 18-65 and 75 percent of those 65+

Middletown: 38 percent of the total Township; 47 percent of those 18-65; and 75 percent of people 65+.

Toms River: 33 percent of all town residents have been vaccinated, and 71 percent over 65.

Holmdel: 44 percent of all residents have been vaccinated, and 76 percent of those 65 and up have been vaccinated.

New Brunswick: 13 percent of the total town was vaccinated, 16 percent of adults and 51 percent of those 65+.

Some towns have much higher vaccine compliance, especially among their 65+ residents: 86 percent of Princeton residents 65+ have been vaccinated. In West Windsor, it's 89 percent. In Avalon, which doesn't have a large youth population, 90 percent of all town residents have been vaccinated.

Some New Jersey towns have stunningly low vaccination rates: In Lakewood Twp., only 14 percent of the total population got the shot, but 65 percent of those over 65 chose to get it.

In Lakehurst borough, total town compliance is at 17 percent. In South Toms River borough, compliance is at 19 percent. The city of Perth Amboy is at 16 percent compliance as a whole. Trenton is at 17 percent vaccinated; Camden at 18 percent.

New Jersey set a goal to fully vaccinate 70 percent of adults — 4.7 million people — by the end of June. About 3.6 million people in New Jersey have been fully vaccinated as of Monday afternoon.
