Woodbridge Baseball, Softball Teams Play on New Turf Fields Saturday
The Barrons will take their new turf fields out for a spin this Saturday! The turf was part of a $21 million school improvement project.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ - The Woodbridge High School Barrons will open the 2017 varsity baseball and girls' softball season this Saturday with a first pitch on their brand-new turf fields.
The teams will host a “First Pitch” pre-game ceremony to officially open the new fields at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. There will also be a ribbon-cutting at home plate.
The turf fields are part of a $21 million School District Facilities Improvement Project at the high school sports complex, a joint undertaking in 2015 by Woodbridge Township and the School Board. The project successfully rebuilt and renovated dozens of community facilities and multi-use athletic fields on school properties. Varsity baseball, softball and soccer teams all play on the new and improved fields.

The sports upgrades costs approximately $21 million, and were paid for by the Township's corporate development fund, the Township says. The fields did not tap into general fund tax dollars, Township spokesman John Hagerty said. Woodbridge Twp. has been able to attract new corporations and industry through the use of business development tax incentives meant to encourage redevelopment of blighted areas.
