Woodbridge Lidl Grocery Store Will Open March 3
The new Lidl on St. Georges Ave. will give the Woodbridge ShopRite and Woodbridge Wegmans some real competition.
WOODBRIDGE, NJ — For those looking to try a new grocery store, the brand-new Woodbridge Lidl is scheduled to open next Wednesday, March 3.
The Woodbridge Lidl is located at 789 St. Georges Avenue (the former A&P site) and will hold its grand opening at 8 a.m. March 3 with a 7:40 a.m. ribbon cutting in front of the store. The first 100 customers will get gift cards ranging from $5 to $100 each. Shoppers can also enter to win a $500 Lidl gift card.
This will be Lidl’s 16th store in New Jersey, as the German-owned Lidl company is in the midst of a massive expansion into the U.S. market, particularly on the East Coast. There are now 130 Lidls in nine U.S. eastern states.

The Lidl will compete with the area's existing two supermarkets, the Woodbridge ShopRite and the Woodbridge Wegmans. Lidl markets itself as a discount grocery store.
The Woodbridge Lidl is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Sunday. Lidl says it sells organic fruits and veggies, and that many of their products are made and sourced in the U.S. but they also carry unique European specialty items, ranging from hard-to-find cheeses to authentic specialty sauces, cured meats and more.

The Woodbridge Lidl will also have a rotating non-food selection that will include fitness gear, small kitchen appliances, toys, outdoor furniture and more.
Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac called Lidl a "world-class food market."
“The fact that Lidl chose Woodbridge Township to open its 16th store in New Jersey speaks to the key economic factors that drive international businesses to locate in the crossroads of New Jersey (Woodbridge)," said McCormac. "The Lidl food market is a welcome addition to the Woodbridge Buy Local business community and offers yet another exciting shopping experience to residents and visitors that will provide long-lasting benefits to the community.”
