Woodbridge Schools Resume Hybrid Schedule

On Monday, Woodbridge public schools went back to the hybrid schedule they were on in the fall.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — On Monday, Woodbridge public schools resumed the hybrid schedule they had been on briefly in the fall, with some children attending school in person on Mondays and Tuesdays and others attending on Thursdays and Fridays.

Families also have the option to keep their child remote for the remainder of the year.

Woodbridge schools started the 2020/21 school year all virtual, then went hybrid for a short period in the fall, but in late November they switched to all remote as the second wave took hold. (January was Woodridge's worst month on record for the coronavirus, with 2,081 total cases.)

While it remains to be seen when — or even if — Woodbridge schools will go back to full-time in-person for the remainder of this year, Gov. Phil Murphy said he is fully confident all New Jersey schools will go back to normal in September.

Woodbridge public schools will get $63 million from the state Department of Education for the 2021-22 school year, a 40 percent funding increase superintendent Bob Zega said he was "grateful for."

Zega said the Woodbridge school district plans on "using these funds to help our students recover academically and emotionally from a year of distance learning."

"I'm not sure why we received such an increase, but we are grateful," Zega told Patch. "For years Woodbridge has been underfunded according to the funding formula. There have been many other districts who were, and remain, similarly underfunded based on the funding formula."
