Woodbridge Twp. Prepares For 8-12 Inches Of Heavy, Wet Snow

Residents with Wednesday trash collection should put the green trash container out by 11:00 p.m. tonight (Tues., March 6) for collection.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Woodbridge issued a Winter Storm Warning beginning tonight Tuesday, March 6 through Wednesday, March 7. The National Weather Service is calling for 8-12 inches of wet, heavy snow, with the heaviest accumulations predicted from 7:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wind gusts of 20-40 mph are predicted, although it is not expected to be as windy as the storm last week.

Residents with Wednesday trash collection should put the green trash container out by 11:00 p.m. tonight (Tues., March 6) for collection before DPW crews begin plowing operations. Residents are asked to bring in the trash containers as soon as possible after collection. DPW crews will collect Thursday recycling on Friday and Friday recycling will be collected on Saturday.

The Woodbridge Office of Emergency Management reminds residents and business owners that vehicles must be removed from streets designated as Snow Emergency Routes in order to keep the streets open for plowing and snow removal operations for 24-36 hours beyond the end of the storm. Parking prohibitions will remain in effect until streets and roadways have been plowed and on-street parking will not interfere with snow removal operations and/or the normal flow of traffic. To assist plowing and snow removal efforts throughout the Township, residents are encouraged to park vehicles in driveways and off streets wherever possible. Residents are reminded to not push snow into plowed streets. Residents are asked to assist emergency crews by uncovering fire hydrants that may be located on or near residential property.

Township businesses and property owners are reminded to keep sidewalks, driveways and public thorofares free of snow and ice. Township ordinance requires property owners to maintain clear pedestrian walkways and sidewalks by removing accumulated snow and ice from sidewalk areas within 24 hours after the end of the storm.

The Department of Public Works closely monitors weather conditions and is at the ready to begin pre-treatment of streets, salting, plowing and appropriate public safety operations. Township Public Works crews have been pre-scheduled to conduct around-the-clock plowing and salting operations for the upcoming 24-36 hours as needed and will concentrate plowing on primary roads first, followed by secondary roads and then cul-de-sacs and dead ends. Woodbridge Township plow operations do not include state and county highways.

Woodbridge Town Hall offices and services will remain open on Wed., March 7, 2018.
