Woodbridge's Three High Schools, Four Middle Go All Virtual

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — On Oct. 29, we reported that the Woodbridge schools superintendent was very worried the district would have a teacher shortage if too many teachers traveled out of state over fall break.

This week, that concern became real: All three of Woodbridge's high schools and four middle schools must be all-virtual for the next two weeks due to teacher shortages, the district announced Monday, Nov. 9.

Any Woodbridge public school teacher who traveled out of state over fall break is now required to stay home under Gov. Murphy's recommended 14-day quarantine.

"Our staff will need to quarantine due to close contact or due to travel," said Woodbridge superintendent Dr. Bob Zega in this letter posted Monday. "As a result, we will not be able to offer hybrid instruction at some schools or in some classes."

With 26 schools and more than 13,000 students, Woodbridge is one of the largest school systems in the state of New Jersey.

As of Nov. 9, here is the schedule for Woodbridge schools (prior to this, they were all on a hybrid schedule):

All Woodbridge High Schools: Fully remote until Nov. 23
RISE: Hybrid; continue current schedule
Avenel MS: Fully remote until Nov. 23
Colonia MS: Fully remote until Nov. 23
Fords MS: Fully remote until Nov. 23
Iselin MS: Hybrid; continue current schedule
Woodbridge MS: Fully remote until Nov. 23
Elementary Schools: Remote or hybrid class by class

"We are switching because of quarantined staff, not because of an outbreak," reminded Zega.
