Woodbridge's Trick-Or-Treating Curfew Is 7 P.M.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — As it is every year, Woodbridge Twp.'s trick-or-treating curfew will be at 7 p.m. this Wednesday, Oct. 30 and Thursday, Oct. 31.

The curfew applies to everyone under the age of 18 (unless accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult). So little kids out trick or treating with Mom or Dad are fine to stay out after 7 p.m., but older tweens and teens cannot be roaming the streets alone.

Woodbridge's Halloween curfew is on the early side as far as New Jersey towns go, but the Twp. says it was put in place because of Daylight Savings Time.

"When we started this curfew years ago, Daylight Savings Time had already ended by Oct. 31. So it was already very dark out at 7 p.m.," said Twp. spokesman John Hagerty. "Now Daylight Savings Time will end on Sunday, Nov. 3 this year. But it will still be very dark out at 7 p.m."

"This is about safety for our kids," he added.

Police will issue a warning and instructions to return home to first-time violators; second offense violators will be held until picked-up by a parent or guardian.
