5 Things: Clean-Up Day, Scholarships & More

Tween mother-daughter time, a concert in memory of a Ramapo teacher, and other things on the calendar.

1. The Faithgirlz  Beauty of Believing Tour is coming to Hawthorne Gospel Church Saturday, May 7 from 1 to 4:15 p.m. The event is designed to open dialogue between mothers and daughter regarding tween friendships, self-image, world, and faith. Tickets are free for moms and $12 for girls in advance at www.itickets.com or $16 at the door. The event sponsored by GEMS Girls’ Clubs, Zonderkidz, and Hawthorne Gospel Church.

2. The 15th Biennial Valley Hospital Auxiliary Kitchen Tour will be held on Wednesday, May 18 from 10 am to 4 pm. See 10 beautiful kitchens in Franklin Lakes, Wyckoff, Glen Rock, Ridgewood, and Saddle River. Proceeds benefit The Valley Hospital's Maternal-Fetal medicine unit and Valley Home Care's Maternal Child Health program. Tickets are $45 each. 3. Concert to Benefit Christine H. White Memorial Scholarship Fund will be held Friday,  May 13 at 7 p.m.  at Wyckoff Reformed Church. White, a Ramapo High grad who taught at both Ramapo and Eastern Christian, passed away last year from an epileptic seizure. Broadway standout, Matthew LaBanca will perform along with local artists Ian Brady, Alex Levy, Dylan Hartigan, Dawn Wang, Icilin Senior and Jim O’Connell. A free will offering will be collected to support the Christine H. White Memorial Scholarship Fund.

4. The Franklin Lakes Environmental Commission and the Franklin Lakes Recycling Program are sponsoring a  Clean-up Day at the Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve (formerly North Haledon Reservoir) on Saturday, May 7 at 8:30 a.m. to noon. 

5. The deadline to apply for an  IronMatt scholarship is May 16. The Matthew Larson Foundation for Pediatric Brain Tumors will award four $500 scholarships,  to two Indian Hills High School seniors and two Ramapo High School seniors who best reflect the characteristics that defined Matthew Larson’s short life. If you are a high school senior and feel you have displayed courage, a strong mind, a big heart, a positive attitude and a never give up personality please stop by your guidance counselor for an application or download an application from our website at www.ironmatt.org.
