Bergen County Cooling Centers Open Admit Hot Weather

Officials recommend residents stay indoors from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. when the sun is at its strongest.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Four cooling centers opened Monday throughout the county to help people deal with the heat.

The cooling centers are located at the following locations:

  • Bergen County Administration Building, 1 Bergen County Plaza, first floor, 201-336-7300
  • Northwest Bergen Senior Activity Center, 46-50 Center St., Midland Park, 201-445-5690
  • Southwest Bergen Senior Activity Center, 147 Hackensack St., East Rutherford, 201-935-8920
  • Bergenfield Senior Center, 293 Murray Hill Terrace, Bergenfield, 201-387-7212

Also, public libraries, shopping centers, and recreation and senior centers can provide respite from the high temperatures.

Several Bergen County schools closed early Monday due to the heat. The National Weather Service is forecasting a high of 94 degrees, and a heat index of a high as 100. A heat advisory is in effect until 8 p.m.

Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco recommends residents stay indoors from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. when the sun is at its strongest and burns and heat strokes are more likely to occur.
