Bergen County Well Represented On Inauguration Day

From local officials to a high school drum line and the GM of a Major League Baseball team, Inauguration Day saw the best of Bergen County.

WASHINGTON, DC — Joe Biden was sworn in a President of the United States on Wednesday as the country tuned in to watch what ended up being a peaceful transition of power. Bergen County viewers likely saw a handful of familiar faces.

Local officials including Rep. Josh Gottheimer and Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton shared scenes from Washington on social media as they attended the ceremony.

"Proud to be joined at the #InaugurationDay Ceremony today by Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton — a great community leader, committed to bringing North Jersey together and keeping our families safe," Gottheimer shared on Twitter.

Cureton shared his thoughts on the transition, and even offered a subtle rebuke of the man leaving office.

"Today I had an opportunity to witness the renewal of democracy in our nation's capital. I now have faith in our commander and chief and his plan to reunite America on the principles of it's founding. Thank you to the Hon. Josh Gottheimer for extending me the invitation to celebrate a historic moment in America's history. God Bless America," wrote Cureton.

The Teaneck High School Flag Twirlers and Drumline were part of the Parade Across America, representing New Jersey during the program.

Superintendent of Schools Christopher Irving said the moment highlighted the talents of the students in the school system.

"Having our high school students chosen to be a part of this historic day is an extraordinary honor," said Irving. "The fact that we have been selected to represent the entire State of New Jersey in this Inaugural 'Parade Across America' brings tremendous pride to the Teaneck community. I have always known our students are exceptional. Now our Flag Twirlers and Drumline will demonstrate that for the entire country."

Two Ridgewood natives were part of the extended events as well, including Miami Marlins General Manager Kim Ng and performer Ali Stroker.

Ng, a Ridgewood High School graduate, made an appearance during the "Celebrating America" program, joining other notable sports figures including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
