Cake Stuffed Cookies Have Arrived At Kara Kakes

FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ – Is it a cookie you’re craving? Or a slice of cake?

Now, thanks to Kara Kakes, you can have the best of both worlds.

The Franklin Lakes bakery is now offering cake stuffed cookies, a treat added to the menu due to popular demand.

After selling them as a limited time item earlier this month, Kara Kakes decided to make cake stuffed cookies available every day.

“To say our cake stuffed cookies were a huge success is an understatement,” the bakery wrote on its Facebook page. “You guys did not play around!”

Shop owner Kara Schnaidt said they had the idea for cake stuffed cookies about a year ago, but they couldn't figure out a recipe that worked.

"The taste was there, but I couldn't get the cookie to stay together," she said. "After trying over and over again, I gave up! Along came this August and there was a day where I had finished all my work early. Instead of leaving early and enjoying the beautiful sunny day, I stayed inside and went back to the cookie. I managed to get it right and released it the following day."

"We were just testing it out for three days and due to the response, we decided to keep the item on the menu! The response has been extremely overwhelming. We can hardly keep them in stock," she said.

According to the bakery, the dessert will be available in two flavors daily until they sell out. And, they’ll be changing up flavors every day to get an idea of what is popular.

Flavors offered so far include: Red Velvet Oreo, Funfetti Birthday Cake and M&M S’mores.

"At some point in the fall, we will probably create a set menu, but until then it's all random! Every day, the favor list grows and we are at 10+ flavors right now. With fall around the corner, our customers can expect to see some 'fall flavors' coming soon," Schnaidt said.

Preordering is recommended and for preorders of a custom flavor, there is a minimum of 12 per flavor. Each cake stuffed cookie costs between $5 and $6.

Launched in 2013 , Kara Kakes has become known for its cupcakes, custom cakes and other yummy treats. It also offers baking and decorating classes for kids at the shop, which Schnaidt opened in early 2015.

Schnaidt, a 2012 Ramapo High School graduate, has won various awards over the years for her creations.
