Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve Opening June 11
Former Haledon Reservoir to be reopened with a ribbon cutting ceremony next weekend.
It's official: After many years, much labor and multiple grants, the Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve will be open to the public as of June 11.Â
The a 120-acre site dedicated to hiking, fishing and birdwatching, will have its opening ceremony on Saturday, June 11 at 10 a.m., with a rain date of Sunday, June 12, at 10 a.m.Â
The property, formerly known as the Haledon Reservoir, was purchased from North Haledon in 2006 for $6.5 million and includes a 70-acre lake that was was used as a water supply. Â The borough received several grants to purchase and preserve the land, including New Jersey Green Acres Grants and Bergen County Open Spaces Preservation Trust.Â

The entrance to the park is on High Mountain Road in North Haledon, just south of the Franklin Lakes border.Â
