Franklin Lakes' Jack Wallace Is Playing For Gold Medal

Wallace lost his leg in a boating accident in 2009. He is competing at the 2018 Paralympic Games for the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team.

FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ — Jack Wallace is going for the gold.

The 19-year-old borough resident will play in the sled hockey gold medal game Sunday at the Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Wallace and the rest of the U.S. Sled Hockey Team will play against Canada.

Wallace, a forward, had a goal and two assists in the team's 10-0 win against the Czech Republic earlier this week.

Wallace enjoyed playing ice hockey before he lost his right leg in a boating accident in July 2008. He was in a coma initially, but recovered and started playing Para ice hockey in 2009. He first heard about the sport while at Camp No Limits in Maine. When he returned home from the camp he joined a local team.

Wallace also enjoys skiing, playing the guitar, camping and woodworking. He a bioengineering major at the College of New Jersey.

The gold medal game will be televised live at 11 p.m. on NBCSN and streamed live on NBCOlympics.com. The team is seeking its third-straight gold medal.
