Get Your Hungarian Chimney Cake Fix In Hackensack

HACKENSACK, NJ – A successful dessert caterer known for her traditional Hungarian chimney cakes is opening retail space in Hackensack.

For the past two years, Nicole Shaw-Provillion and her business, Kurly Kürtősh, has gained popularity in northern New Jersey and New York with the popular Central European street food, which is described as a “cross between a pastry and French beignet.”

On Jan. 25, Kurly Kürtősh will celebrate the opening of its new space, inside of Planted Eats, 355 Essex Street, with tastings, raffles and other surprises from 1 to 4 p.m.

The location will serve as a showroom, retail space and commercial kitchen for the business, according to Kurly Kürtősh.

Since its launch in 2018, Kurly Kürtősh has served up over 10,000 chimney cakes and appeared at pop-up shops and corporate functions with brands like Bloomingdale's, Williams-Sonoma, The Nutella Cafe-NYC, Lord & Taylor, J. Crew, Citigroup, Merrill Lynch & Unilever. In addition, Kurly Kürtősh has been invited to the Hungarian Embassy in Washington, D.C. two years in a row and Bank of America spotlighted Shaw-Provillion in its Women Business Owner feature.

According to the company, the treats are baked and personalized on the spot, based on training from an award-winning chimney cake baker and “a time-tested secret recipe,” making for “a truly authentic Hungarian experience.”

The company also sources from “a prominent local spice purveyor and international gourmet wholesalers” to ensure “the best flavors from around the world.”

Flavors include: Coconut Kurls, Cocoa Kurls, Nutty Crunchy Kurls, Cinnamon Kurls and classic.
