Heat Advisory In Effect For Bergen County

The heat wave continues as a heat advisory is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. on Thursday in throughout Bergen County.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — It's going to be another hot one in Bergen County.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Thursday, slated to go into effect at noon and stretching until 8 p.m.

According to the NWS, the heat index could reach the upper 90s for the second consecutive day in eastern and western parts of the county.

Hot temperatures and high humidity could cause heat illnesses to occur, according to the NWS.

The NWS recommends drinking "plenty of fluids", staying in air-conditioned rooms, staying out of the sun and checking in on relatives and neighbors.

Additionally, extra precautions should be taken if working or spending time outdoors. When possible, the NWS says, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

Today

A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 99. Southwest wind 6 to 10 MPH. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Tonight

A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 7 p.m. and midnight, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 75. West wind 5 to 9 MPH becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. North wind around 6 MPH.

Friday Night

Partly cloudy, with a low around 71. Southwest wind around 5 MPH becoming calm in the evening.
