Heat Advisory, Flash Flood Watch Issued Across Bergen County

The National Weather Service says rainfall rates could dump 2-inches per hour in Bergen County.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Just over a week removed from the onset of tropical storm Isaias, the National Weather Service says more heavy rain could be on the horizon Wednesday in Bergen County.

The NWS has issued a flash flood watch in effect beginning at noon Wednesday, which will stretch into the evening hours.

Afternoon thunderstorms could bring torrential rainfall, the NWS said, with rainfall rates of up to 2-inches per hour possible.

With rates that high expected to dumb rain in the area in a short amount of time, the NWS says flash flooding is possible in low-lying areas, and those with poor drainage. Some smaller streams could also see flooding.

In addition to possible flooding, the NWS has issued a heat advisory for Wednesday until 8 p.m.

Showers and thunderstorms likely after 2 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Increasing clouds, with a high near 89. Heat index values as high as 95. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Tonight

A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
